wineries, often snubbed by wine writer and wine-community due to poor quality of the wines produced in the past, large quantities of wine worked (still loose), the rooms old and ashamed of that welfarism that has always characterized (especially in Sicily, where unfortunately there are still cases like these), now seem to live a new "season", with the efficiency, modernity, technology and respect for local traditions. An important example of this renaissance is certainly formed by Settesoli Cellars, a large wine cooperative based in Memphis (a thriving town of 13,000 inhabitants, falling in the province of Agrigento and that since 1995, gives its name, rinomatissima doc) that has proven to be highly competitive and a real economic driver of the territory in which it appears today creates jobs for over 3000 people, more than any other industry in Sicily, and was named Winery of the Year 2008 by the Gambero Rosso. It 'a company that produces several lines of wines, according to the target of target customers. Rather than make an obvious choice and opt for the line "top" (the Mandrarossa), being a winery, I wanted to check the quality of the starting line "classical", actually called, "Settesoli. So I decided at the nearby hypermarket Inzolia a bottle of pure, native grape variety, price € 3.90. As always remember to many friends, drinking good wines from 10-15 euro we're all good: just put hands in their pockets. The beautiful (and difficult!) Is rather to find a wine as good for less than 5 € (in Italy, an infinite universe!). Once the bottle to reach an ideal temperature of about 10 degrees, to untap and wine into tulipanetto. The color, but a crystal clear straw yellow with golden reflections wonderful, it makes some think of a fresh wine, but well-balanced taste. Rather closed at first, initially shows a rather intense on the nose but not particularly complex (all things considered acceptable for a young wine, bottled just a few months). However, prevaricated a bit 'with the cup in his hand, turning it clockwise several times, hoping that the wine is opened. After about 10 minutes good, so slight but perceptible, you will hear faint floral notes and hints of fruit above all much more clear: notes of citrus, white peach, cantaloupe. The wine has a certain "shyness" in expressing basic, nevertheless, seems to begin to "talk". The curious and pleasant notes of cantaloupe with me for a good ten minutes. Resist the temptation to bring the wine to his mouth. Rotate the cup again, brought it to his nose e. .. Finally! Notes fruity descriptors seem to leave room for herbs. I seem to recognize, though barely perceptible, mint, slight but clear, and a remote end of fresh oregano. Without hesitation, therefore, the port wine in the mouth. The impact is certainly fresh and tasty (the saliva is evident), the wine has a good backbone, the vivacity of his youth there is unequivocal, but being of body, one can not record an interesting balance between hard parts and soft parts. Fair taste intensity that, in some ways disappointing compared to the nose but on the one hand confirms the "closure" of the wine. Rather surprising good aromatic finish the final, with those hints of herbs on the bottom already felt the final bouquet. Overall, a French wine, a good level, perhaps every day, but that certainly does not have anything to envy to many "colleagues" sounding of higher price and often disappointing. I matched the Inzolia Settesoli of the pizza during the weekly meeting at the home of my friend Alberto, a passionate film buff, with a video library of approximately 1500 titles and 100-inch projector. The film was screened this time SuperSize Me, a documentary film of 2004 on fast food in America, directed by and starring Morgan Spurlock, an American independent filmmaker who decides to become the guinea pig of a crazy and unique experiment: one month the only McDonald's food. After 30 days of this abominable diet not only gained less than 11 kg but has also shown unexpected and sudden mood swings, tiredness and strong disturbing sexual dysfunction. During his Mc-adventure, has gobbled up some 15 kg of sugar (ie 1 / 2 kg per day) and took the equivalent of less than 5 kg of fat. While going back to 2004, the film is more timely than ever. The scary thing is that in the U.S. there are millions of people who eat well every day, and the junk food is imposed on the population from infancy through effective marketing action. In addition, the film also shows how this "food" induces a significant dependence. Obesity is now an enormous social and economic plight in America, where health spending to cope with the problems of excess weight of the population continues to grow disproportionately. A recent study by the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health estimated that by 2030, in fact, almost all American citizens will be obese, nine out of ten for accuracy. When I watch a film can, in general, not to get involved too emotionally from what to attend. But as American imperialism knows no bounds of space-time, and millions of people who want the whole world looked like America, I can not worry a bit '. It is true that we are not a swarm of fast food as in Manhattan or Boston. But it is also true that it is increasing the consumption of meat (according to Coldiretti, Italy has increased by 300% since the postwar period, while decreased those of bread, pasta and wine) and carbonated drinks, sweetened (with levels of consumption have now eclipsed those of wine, 66 liters of wine per year compared with 44, the data of 2008). And 'these days the news that McDonald's Italy, after a fleeting interlude of McItaly, will relaunch in September with the "Mozzarillo," a hamburger bun with a layer of mozzarella and Italian salad. A new sandwich, then, according to a statement from the typical Italian taste, which will use as the main ingredient mozzarella cheese, made solely from 100% Italian milk. And 'interesting to see how this news comes at a time "hot" made of mozzarella and blue cheese red. However, if we care about our health and that of our children, we try to remain Italian, or better, "Mediterranean", maintaining "our" way of life (sometimes maybe not exactly "healthy", but certainly different and safer than the American one). Meanwhile, we begin with avoiding fast-food restaurants that we find in our cities. If our children insist on going there, because they are drawn from their marketing explosive dirottiamoli rather on the "street food" typical of our area, maybe not healthy, but certainly just as good and "culturally" as a preferable choice. We exalt our increasingly beneficial Mediterranean diet, we reduce the consumption of foods of animal origin, and let us move more. Physical movement is not just about sports: it means, for example, taking the stairs instead of the lift, do not use the car to go buy bread, make a habit of making two steps in the evening after dinner. Dine on pizza and threw down Inzolia while Morgan Spurlock Cheeseburger and gallons of Coca Cola was, I admit, rather comforting: you seemed to feel protected, safe, did you see everything with huge gap and not only that: as I watched the movie I understood more than ever, the priceless value of that great heritage which is unique from our regional culinary traditions. An impregnable fortress culture, "a solid and secure bastion of authenticity, customs and traditions that protect, to defend ourselves effectively from the" barbaric attacks "across the Atlantic. E 'must be said: in the match vs PIZZA & INZOLIA Cheeseburger & COCA COLA, the first group, at least for me, wins by knockout, for sure. Crown Caramel
